This animated short describes an incident in the War of 1812. Here, colourful drawings give a satirical twist to the engagement between a British ship, the H.M.S. Shannon, and an American ship, the U.S.S. Chesapeake. Sung to guitar accompaniment by Canadian folksinger Tom Kines.

    July 10, 2012 The NFB has always been far, far too under-rated. The NFB is one of Canada's great treasures, for your preserve our stories and our history in film or outstanding cartoon sketches. The story of the HMS Shannon's encounter with its US counterpart during the War of 1812, is but one sterling example of the world-class quality of the NFB's vast collection. May the NFB long prosper (despite the devastating and absolutely unwarranted recent governmental cutbacks). Canadians everywhere should re-acquaint or acquaint themselves - as I have done- with the NFB. You will be very glad you did!

    War was and is a bloody and tragic affair. However, our ancestors of this period at least conducted themselves with honor as well as courage and we should to this day be proud of them!
