About the Awards


Created in 1992, the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards honour the best in Canadian talent. Each year, awards are presented for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in theatre, dance, classical music, popular music, film, radio and television broadcasting.


Proud to be associated with this event, for the past 4 years the NFB has produced short films to commemorate the winners. These films were screened at the awards ceremonies and are now available for you to view online.


Past Award Winners


In the past few years, recipients of these prestigious awards have included Bryan Adams, Edouard Lock, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Paul Gross, Robert Lepage, James Fleck, Eugene Levy and The Tragically Hip, among others.
