Pink Ribbons, Inc. (Clip)

Pink Ribbons, Inc. is a feature documentary that shows how the devastating reality of breast cancer, which marketing experts have labeled a "dream cause," has been hijacked by a shiny, pink story of success.

In this clip, Barbara Ehrenreich (Welcome to Cancerland) and Barbara Brenner (Breast Cancer Action) discuss the changing face of activism while Dr. Olufunmilayo Olopade talks about the risk factors associated with the disease. Watch the official trailer here.

«I have been pondering for a while about charity/slacktivism and how it allows the governments to withdraw from their duties. This documentary is definitely an eye-opener. Certainly did not help my cynicism! It may be time to take the fluffy out of charity and make these organisations accountable. But there is just something so unpolitically correct about lifting the curtain on the ugly truth about charity, and the whistle blowers are automatically coined as bitter and grumpy and cynical. "let me eat yogurt and give to charity, it makes me feel good even if it doesn't make a difference!" @dictating, the academic titles are actually correct. »

«How timely for this to be rolling out across Canada today in the wake of the Komen Foundation pulling funding and changing their own policy to support the new political agenda they seem to have. It wasn't enough that SGK supported KFC feeding us grilled chicken (which is banned in California) because the chemicals are so toxic or that they willingly partner with cosmetic companies that use known cancer causing chemicals in their producs they now want to moralize who can get screened and where using funds WE ALL raised. Shame on Nancy Brinker who lost sight of her sister Susan Komen in creating the monster known as the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The documentary is excellent. I'm pretty sure I can look up which Dr. is a MD or Ph.D. if I want to research the content further @dictating.»

«Saw this film last week. Unfortunately all academic titles of the contributors mentioned in the credits are incorrect: "Dr. Jim Jones, Ph.D.", should be either "Dr. Jim Jones" or "Jim Jones, Ph.D." "Dr. Jim Jones, M.D.", should be either :Dr. Jim Jones" or "Jim Jones, M.D." I believe this basic error detracts from the professionalism of an otherwise interesting movie.       «About 4 years ago on the brilliant program Marketplace, the head of the Cancer Society said that looking for a cure was not their mandate. They were not looking for a cure. The running, jumping, walking, banking and all the ways that we have donated millions are just marketing hype, very successful marketing hype. Why are so many women and some men falling prey to breast cancer? Why are we remaining sheep to the slaughter. All cancer, in fact all illnesses, all dis-eases are specific messages from our all knowing inner Self, Read Louise Hay. Take what she says as true. look within and find a coach who will carry the light for your healing. Cancer is not the first message. But it is one that we do not ignore. »

«If one of the most important risk factors in getting breast cancer is being a woman, then what about the men that are diagnosed with the same disease?»
