Ask younger grades to listen for the different city sounds they hear and record their answers. Read a version of the book, Country Mouse and City Mouse and ask the kids to compare living in the city to living in the country. In the upper grades (grade 5 and up), look at all the symbolism in the short animated clip. Teacher should bring attention to the way the character feels before and after he crosses the bridge. Many images show the fear of the city. Ask the students to go back and pick them out. In an oral discussion or in a written journal students should respond to the following questions: Which way does he decide to take in the end? Why do you think he went back to where he started in the first place? Have students in grade 3 and 4 sketch in pencil a city scene including aspects of a busy city.
